The undivided mind | Neuroscience, brand memory & human behaviour | Jonathan Rolley

from Bee Formless™ Flow Driven CEO

In this episode of the Bee Formless™ Flow Driven CEO Podcast, I connected with Jonathan Rolley, Founder and CEO of Undivided, to explore neuroscience, branding, sales, decision making, AI and why so much marketing fails to influence the very people it is trying to reach. What made this conversation particularly memorable was that Jonathan's fascination with the human brain began long before his career in marketing. At just 18 years old, after moving from country Victoria to Melbourne to study industrial design, he was diagnosed with a brain tumour deep in the centre of his brain. Faced with his own mortality at such a young age, the future he thought he had planned suddenly disappeared.Looking back, Jonathan can trace much of his career and curiosity back to that moment. What began as a desire to design products people wanted eventually evolved into a much deeper question: why do people desire anything at all?I loved Jonathan's story about working at Harvey Norman, learning the mechanics of sales, he encountered a customer who dismissed every recommendation and simply said, "Sony has never let me down."In that moment, Jonathan realised something that would later become central to his work. The decision had already been made long before the customer entered the store. Trust had already been built, memory already existed and the brand had already earned its place in the customer's mind.At a time when organisations are rushing to embrace AI, automation and data-driven decision-making, Jonathan offered a timely reminder that while technology can process information at extraordinary speed, human judgement, memory, emotion and behaviour still sit at the centre of how decisions are made. The Shape Shift in MotionAt the heart of this conversation was a shift from trying to understand what people say they want towards understanding how people actually think, feel and choose. This is how that shift unfolded through the Bee Formless™ methodology:LEARN (LETTING GO)✨ Most decisions happen long before conscious awareness✨ Brands are built in memory, not simply messaging✨ Human behaviour often contradicts what people say they wantUNLEARN (CREATE, REIMAGINE & RESHAPE)✨ Reimagine marketing through how people actually think and choose✨ Create messages that build memory before asking for action✨ Reshape brand strategy around human behaviour, not assumptionsRELEARN (TEST & IMPLEMENT)✨ Build trust before expecting preference✨ Use neuroscience to strengthen creative decisions✨ Use AI as a tool for leverage without outsourcing judgementACTIVE RECOVERY (REFLECT & RESET)✨ Where are you outsourcing thinking instead of developing it?✨ What does your brand truly own in memory?✨ Are you communicating to how people think or how you wish they thought?🔗 https://www.linkedin.com/in/jonathanrolley/🌐 https://www.undivided.com.au💭 If most decisions happen before conscious awareness, what does that mean for the way we lead, market, communicate and build trust? If something is shifting in your business, leadership, growth, start with a Strategic Shape Shift Diagnostic:https://calendly.com/beeformless/strategicshapeshiftdiagnostic#beeformless #flowdrivenceo #neuromarketing #brandstrategy #consumerbehaviour #humanbehaviour #decisionmaking #storytelling #insideouttransformation
