Hattie Gertrude Brown was a decorated soldier, serving 18 years in the United States Military.Following her retirement in 1998, Hattie moved back to her hometown of Halifax, Virginia to be near family.On May 16, 2009, at 2:00 a.m., Hattie received a phone call from her nephew Derek. He asked for a ride home from a local gas station. Hattie headed to the Sheetz in Halifax where she found Derek.
