The Value of Effective Data Categorization

from Safety Chats Podcast

Incidents, accidents, events, near misses, hazards - all these represent the stream of incoming data you are managing. The problem is the value of that data is only as good as the system you have to retrieve and sort it. This is where our topic for today comes in - finding an effective categorization scheme. When our categories are applicable it helps us find our data- easier, faster and help us link things in our data. Turns out that this categorization is called taxonomy and in this weeks episode we will discuss how to choose a system of categorization you can use to effectively manage all that data. Predefined industry taxonomies: ICAO ADREP (Accident/Incident Reporting Program)HEIDI or Harmonisation of European Incident Definitions Initiatives for ATMSMICG/CICTT Hazard TaxonomyConfidential Human Factors Incident Reporting Programme (CHIRP)ASRS Anomaly CodeThreats and Errors Management (TEM) taxonomyThe Human Factor Analysis and Classification System (HFACS)Contact Safety Chats Tweet us at @BaldwinAviationConnect on LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/company/baldwin-aviation-safety-&-compliance/ Follow on Facebook @BaldwinSafety Email us at [email protected] more about Safety Management System’s at www.BaldwinSMS.com Thanks for listening and stay safe!
