Luke 5:1-11 (NRSV). The lesson from today’s text is a story of Jesus calling four fishermen to be fishers of people. The purpose of this miracle was not to meet a human-need. It was a teaching miracle. We will see five aspects of Christ’s divine nature and glory manifested: 1) disciples love to hear the word of God taught; 2) disciples obey Jesus even when it doesn’t make sense; 3) disciples are aware of their own sinfulness; 4) disciples are fishers of people; and 5) disciples are willing to forsake all and follow Christ.
