Genesis 3:1-4 The Fall 3 Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God actually say, 'Youa]">[a] shall not eat of any tree in the garden'?" 2 And the woman said to the serpent, "We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, 3 but God said, 'You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.'" 4 But the serpent said to the woman, "You will not surely die.     Matthew 4:1-11   English Standard Version     The Temptation of Jesus 4 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 And the tempter came and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread." 4 But he answered, "It is written, "'Man shall not live by bread alone,     but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.'" 5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and set him on the pinnacle of the temple 6 and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, "'He will command his angels concerning you,' and "'On their hands they will bear you up,     lest you strike your foot against a stone.'" 7 Jesus said to him, "Again it is written, 'You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.'" 8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to him, "All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me." 10 Then Jesus said to him, "Be gone, Satan! For it is written, "'You shall worship the Lord your God     and him only shall you serve.'" 11 Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him. Ezekiel 28:12-17   English Standard Version 12 "Son of man, raise a lamentation over the king of Tyre, and say to him, Thus says the Lord God: "You were the signet of perfection,a]">[a]     full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. 13 You were in Eden, the garden of God;     every precious stone was your covering, sardius, topaz, and diamond,     beryl, onyx, and jasper, sapphire,b]">[b] emerald, and carbuncle;     and crafted in gold were your settings     and your engravings.c]">[c] On the day that you were created     they were prepared. 14 You were an anointed guardian cherub.     I placed you;d]">[d] you were on the holy mountain of God;     in the midst of the stones of fire you walked. 15 You were blameless in your ways     from the day you were created,     till unrighteousness was found in you. 16 In the abundance of your trade     you were filled with violence in your midst, and you sinned; so I cast you as a profane thing from the mountain of God,     and I destroyed you,e]">[e] O guardian cherub,     from the midst of the stones of fire. 17 Your heart was proud because of your beauty;     you corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor. I cast you to the ground;     I exposed you before kings,     to feast their eyes on you.
