Do you believe in witches? Growing up in a small New England town that dates back a few hundred years, it's easy to imagine that the creepy old house situated on some back road would be the home of the town witch. Even to this day I can recall that house. The story of Hannah Cranna Hovey has much of the same lore. Born in 1783 in Monroe, Connecticut began with the death of her husband. The town locals believed that Hannah must have put a spell on him. Throughout Hannah's life she was a bit of a recluse and had several oddities about her including her pet rooster, Boreas, who preferred to crow at midnight - the witching hour. Hannah Hovey was an interesting character and maybe she was a witch. People to this day believe they still see ghostly apparitions in the cemetery where she was buried.
