The Winning Mindset

from Mi Duole Cycling Podcast

Welcome guest, Matt Bailey! Matt Bailey, 41 years old and currently from South Jordan, UT. He has two daughters, 16 and 12, who are both on the high school/middle school mountain bike team. At 6’4” he’s pretty tall for a biker, and if it were up to me he would be 250lbs and look as much like Travis Kelce as possible, but we can’t have it all right? He used to be 250lbs before he decided to go crazy roadie on me. We have been together for about 5 years, and coming from Kansas this whole biking thing was something I knew nothing about. When we met, it was all about mountain biking but oh how times have changed. He started road riding in 2019, a couple years after we met and has never looked back. My least favorite part of biking by a long shot are the shaved legs, and even though this still doesn’t cut it, we have finally come to an agreement that he only shaves for the first race of the season through the last race of the season. Most people say they come from a crazy family, but you haven’t met crazy till you meet Matt’s family. He is the oldest of 5 children and probably the least crazy, although that’s all relative because he’s a total nut job.  Two things we love about Matt are that one, every meal he eats is literally the best thing he’s ever had and he goes to great lengths to point that out. And second, he is always eager to share what he learned whenever he doesn’t win. We tease him about it now, saying “well Matt what did you learn this time?” Gotta love him! Off the bike he loves live music, skiing, the Utah Utes, and the Kansas City Chiefs. Thank goodness the football season and the bike season don’t overlap much. We are big campers and also take pride in pretty much never having a free weekend. It’s always racing, camping, or going somewhere fun.
