English and spelling were not my strong points, and the truth be told other than recess and gym, I didn't excel at anything.Then Coach Jack Smith hit a nerve with me one day, as I had to write something on some papers which was on the hood of a car outside to old Boy's School gym. That's nerve without a "K." Yes sir, I found myself having to spell the work knee on the report about a past injury and surgery, and I spelled in "nee" vice "knee." Well let me tell you,....Jack Smith blew a gasket to say the least. Did he belittle me? Yes, and it was fitting, warranted and well deserved. I felt two inches tall and like a two inch tall idiot at that.Weeks later I recall looking up the word knee in the dictionary while in the Library, or as we used to pronounce it; "liberry." It was then I realized some many words start with "kn" but the "k" is silent.So today at age 62, I decided to find out why. Join me on the podcast to learn as well.
