Thick Fog Swallows Sierra Valley During Elephant Fire Battle

Sierra Valley, California – The Elephant Fire has reached 12,303 acres and is 5 percent contained, with more than 500 personnel assigned to the incident. Weather conditions remained overcast, with steady rain falling overnight and low visibility reported along roads throughout Sierra Valley. Video showed heavy fog engulfing a rural road as a black SUV with bright headlights slowly drove toward the camera past a parked RV trailer. The footage then shifted to a barbed-wire fence beside a grassy field, barely visible through the dense mist. Another scene showed a small town street where buildings were almost completely hidden by the fog as a white SUV with its taillights illuminated drove away near railroad crossing signs. Fire crews are using the current weather window to continue securing firelines while working toward full containment of the blaze. Portions of the Tahoe National Forest and Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest near the fire remain closed to the public.
