The gossip. The snide remarks. The passive aggressive, snarky bullshit. The talking out both sides of their mouth. The peer bashing, at every level. People forgetting their own faults and flaws, in a mad rush to expose someone else’s. The comments, claiming to be good natured, but designed with the intention to shame, embarrass or denigrate others. Aren’t we all a bit old for this kind of nonsense….? Can we agree it’s time to grow the fuck up….?Because let’s be honest, when we engage in that kind of high school level behaviour, snark dressed up as witty replies, unnecessary comments that serve no sincere purpose and definitely don’t provide any worth….it really exposes more about that person’s true character than anyone they’re trying to shame and embarrass. We’ve all found ourselves subject to gossip, innuendo and people believing what they want to about you….First Responders love to talk! But are we ever truly informed about what someone else is going through….? Or are we lowering ourselves to that degenerate level that most 14yo have grown out of….Take a look at your actions and behaviour; are you being authentic to your own values and the person you claim to be….whether in person at the station or department, or in online platforms…? Or are you revealing your true nature, with cryptic, snarky, gossipy bullshit, that serves no genuine purpose and helps no one….?Don’t be that person. The one with the fragile ego who needs to feed it by unnecessarily denigrating others. The one who will bitch and moan about the kind of treatment they’ve been subjected to, be it harassment, bullying, moral injury or disrespect, then have a short memory and misaligned values when it comes to their treatment of others and their own actions. We’re not in high school. Focus on you. Time to grow up. Whether on shift, at home or out and about and I look forward to spending a couple of hours with you all.
