Things I Wish I Could Tell Myself at the U.S. Naval Academy

from Why Not #DoBoth with Kellie Sbrocchi · host Kellie Hall Sbrocchi

Today, we go back in time to July 1, 2010: the day Kellie entered the U.S. Naval Academy and began her naval career.Four years of rigorous academics, leadership development, military training, and some of the most formative lessons of her life. But if she could go back to that version of herself then, what would she say to save herself from some of the unnecessary stress, anxiety, pressure, and worry? In this episode, Kellie goes back to herself as a fourth-class midshipman at the Naval Academy and shares everything she wishes she could have told herself then. What she wishes she knew when she was overwhelmed by the pressure, consumed by grades, distracted by the wrong things, and trying so hard to keep up in an environment that demands everything from you. This is the episode she wishes someone had handed her when she was in the middle of it.Some of the things she would have told herself:Grades do not define leadership.Hard work will always speak louder than rumors. Not everyone deserves access to your time, energy, or heart. The women beside you will matter more than you realize.Failure is not the end, it is often where growth begins.Your service selection will shape more of your life than you think. You do not have to have everything figured out right now.Kellie also opens up about what she would have done differently: who she would have given less of her time to, why female friendships mattered more than she realized, why protecting your peace and your reputation matters, and how trying something new can sometimes change the entire direction of your life. From service selection to relationships, pressure, identity, and the decisions that shape your future long after graduation, this episode is honest, reflective, and full of the perspective she wishes she had sooner. This episode is for anyone currently in the thick of it, feeling overwhelmed, uncertain, behind, or like everyone else has it figured out except you. They don’t.Disclaimer: Views and opinions are personal and do not reflect that of the DOD/DOW.Show Notes~Interested in applying?
