This Week in Tyranny: DOJ Erases January 6, Oath Keepers Walk Free, Colbert Cancelled

This week, the Department of Justice quietly deleted 1,700 press releases from its website. Every single one was about January 6th: prosecution announcements, guilty pleas, sentencings. When a reporter noticed, the DOJ said they were “proud” to do it, and called the federal record of the insurrection “partisan propaganda.” One of the deleted releases was about a Texas man who pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer with a metal whip on January 6 and is also a registered sex offender currently facing child solicitation charges. Trump’s $1.7 billion slush fund is positioned to compensate him.The same week, the DOJ moved to vacate the seditious conspiracy convictions against Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes and seven others, with prejudice, meaning the charges cannot be brought again. Rhodes had weapons stash houses across the Potomac on January 6 and was convicted by a jury, with the conviction upheld on appeal.Two federal judges in two states tossed two of Trump’s biggest political prosecutions in the same week. Judge April Perry dismissed the Broadview Six case in Illinois, saying she had never in her career seen prosecutorial behavior this bad. Judge Waverly Crenshaw in Tennessee dismissed the human smuggling case against Kilmar Abrego Garcia, ruling the prosecution was vindictive and pointing directly at acting Attorney General Todd Blanche.Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth delivered a commencement address at West Point in which he told graduates to “seek God” and follow the advice of the late Charlie Kirk, a Christian nationalist activist. The United States military is constitutionally required to be non-religious and non-partisan.Stephen Colbert’s Late Show aired its final episode on Thursday, ending an 11-year Colbert run and the 33-year Late Show franchise on CBS. CBS announced the cancellation last summer days after Colbert criticized Paramount’s settlement with Trump, while Paramount was awaiting Trump administration approval of a major merger.Plus: Senate Republicans fled town to avoid voting on Trump’s slush fund.
