This word can help you reduce if not eliminate your drinking habits.

from The Radical Healing Podcast with Jessica Betancourt · host Jessica Betancourt

The words you use can shape how much you drink.Casual sayings like, "It's 5 O'Clock somewhere," “Just one more,” or “We're celebrating” can make heavier or regular drinking feel normal or harmless to your mind even though your body may be communicating with signs of, 'This is not good for us anymore.'Social language creates pressure and expectations.Phrases such as “Don’t be boring” or "I don't want this bottle by myself!" can push people to choose to drink more to please people or as a way to bond with them. While supportive language (“no worries,” “your choice”) makes it easier to stop or decline alcohol.Self-talk language influences drinking habits more than anything. The way people talk to themselves matters too. Saying “I need a drink to relax” reinforces alcohol as a coping tool, while reframing it as a question, “What else can I do to get my needs met right now?” can change behavior over time with deliberate awareness of how you are creating your internal narrative. Since the beginning of 2021, I have been successful at drinking less or not at all. Yet still protecting my option to keep it available. I would say things like: taking a break, having alcohol free days, I’m working on, I intend to, etc… which helped me reform my habits but still maintaining a likability with alcohol. I worked on my beliefs, my environment, my health choices. I was not ready to commit to longer terms because I didn’t want to feel false to myself. Until now. I have recently ackowledged that I have created an internal dialogue that is no longer a match for even intermittent drinking. I am ready, feeling aligned, and committed to - letting alcohol fall away from me altogether. This summer I will be documenting this process and offering as many resources that I have implemented to help me arrive here in a private program designed specifically for women who feel that they have one foot in the world of 'Wanting to move on', and 'Still feeling attached to alcohol.
