Op 1 september 1921 werd Willem Frederik Hermans geboren aan de Overtoom in Amsterdam, nu precies 100 jaar geleden. Het komende jaar zal daarom in het teken staan van het werk van deze beroemde schrijver. In De Nieuwe Kerk werd een gedenksteen voor Hermans onthuld door burgemeester Femke Halsema en Guy Verhofstadt, Europarlementariër en oud-premier van België. Op deze feestelijke bijeenkomst was voor heel even ook een tentoonstelling te zien van de collagetekeningen van Hermans, samengesteld door Thom Hoffmann. De acteur en fotograaf dook de archieven in en wist nog nooit vertoonde werken bij elkaar te brengen. Atelier Amsterdam streek neer in De Nieuwe Kerk om met Thom Hoffman in gesprek te gaan over zijn grote fascinatie voor het werk van Willem Frederik Hermans.
