Thoracic E26: Pleural Mesothelioma
from RadOnc Smart Review Hosted by Abass Conteh
Welcome back to Rad Onc Smart Review: Thoracic Oncology Edition. Episode 26 treats pleural mesothelioma as the surface-spreading disease it is—not as a spherical lung mass. We cover diagnostic adequacy, histology, anatomic extent, operability, and whether meaningful cytoreduction is achievable before turning to the radiation problem. Planning then branches by operation. After lung-sparing pleurectomy and decortication, two lungs remain around a large concave pleural target; after extrapleural pneumonectomy, one lung remains and even a modest low-dose bath can be dangerous. The recommendation must begin with the actual operation and expected pulmonary risk.
