Thoughts on the Salvation of the Heterodox

from Hill Country Homilies · host Abp. Irineos

About 90 minutes before the Liturgy on August 26th, Bp. Irineos received word that his father had reposed after a brief illness. Since many Orthodox in the United States have relatives, like the bishop's father, who have not been received into the Church, Bp. Irineos talks about how we understand the state of the heterodox, and why we must remember that the sure path to salvation is found within the Orthodox church.Bp. Irineos wishes to add this note: "Having not had time to prepare a homily on this subject, I confused a quote from St. Theophan the Recluse with St. Silouan. The actual quote from St. Theophan is as follows: “You ask, will the heterodox be saved…Why do you worry about them? They have a Saviour Who desires the salvation of every human being. He will take care of them. You and I should not be burdened with such a concern. Study yourself and your own sins….”
