Tiger Talk Episode 82 08/27/2019

from Tiger Talk Podcast by Northeast Mississippi Community College · host Northeast Mississippi Community College, Michael H. Miller, Will Kollmeyer

We are rolling into the 2019 fall semester and back to the weekly format on the TigerTalk podcast with NEMCC executive vice president Craig-Ellis Sasser and career technical education counselor Carrie Cobb. Sasser gives us an in-depth interview about various things happening on campus. Sasser does point out that Northeast is one of the few community/junior colleges and even four-year colleges/universities to have an enrollment increase over each of the last six years. Sasser talks about the start of the enrollment increase with a switch to a four-day academic week in 2014 and the increases continue into the 2019 fall semester as well. The executive vice president also talks about the myriad of projects happening around the college -- completion of Davis Hall, the baseball/softball complex, new LED lighting on the football field and even a change to the learning environment with new furniture going into most buildings on campus as well as plans for the renovation of the Student Union. In the second half of the podcast, career technical education counselor Carrie Cobb sits down to talk about everything that is going on in the world of CTE. Cobb talks about the upcoming Tiger Apprenticeship, where the number of students will double from last year along with the upcoming HEADS -- Higher Education Achieves Demonstrative Skills -- festival on October 10. Cobb also brags on the programs in the career technology fields and how they are supplying a well-educated workforce to our area industries. Between the segments, Will Kollmeyer gives a rundown of all the events that are happening on campus before the beginning of the school year and some major dates that people need to know about when they return to campus.
