Tiger Talk Episode 83 09/03/2019

from Tiger Talk Podcast by Northeast Mississippi Community College · host Northeast Mississippi Community College, Michael H. Miller, Will Kollmeyer

It's been a busy start to the 2019 fall semester as evident by our events and happenings section. Northeast Cares founders Amber Nelms, Tabitha McKay, and Britney Whitley start off things for us this week as they talk about the Northeast Cares program, where it came from and what it means to the campus. During the discussion, Nelms, McKay, and Whitley discuss the origin behind the program -- being a Mississippi Community College Leadership Academy project -- along with what all the program entails. Nelms, McKay, and Whitley talk about if a student has anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts they are more than welcome to contact Northeast Cares but also, those that face food insecurity along with food allergies are also asked to participate in the program. In the second half of the podcast, golf coach Derek DeVaughn stops in to talk about the reinstated Northeast golf program and what he is expecting from the team. The Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) has split the schedule into fall and spring instead of all spring matches and DeVaughn talks about how that will help his team as they prepare for three matches in the fall and a pair in the spring before heading into postseason play. DeVaughn also finds time to be an industrial maintenance instructor and discusses that program in length and also gives insights on how the program will change next year. Between the segments, Will Kollmeyer gives a rundown of all the events that are happening on campus before the beginning of the school year and some major dates that people need to know about when they return to campus.
