G. Wells and Jack the Ripper. Jack began his known ripping career in 1988, and H. G. Wells published his novel The Time Machine in 1895. They certainly could have met. And if Wells actually invented a time machine that worked, the events of Time After Time (1979) could have taken place… Well, they could have! The whole thing seems entirely plausible thanks to the direction of Nicholas Meyer, his fantastic crew, and the incredible performances of Mary Steenburgen, Malcolm McDowell, and David Warner. Is this more of a romance? Yes, but Meyer et al manage to provide a quotient of horror while minimizing the graphic violence. Remember, it's not only what you see that brings the frisson. At the time of this writing, Time After Time (1978) is available to stream from Tubi, as well as several PPV options.
