Today’s homily: St Swithun of Winchester (2026)

Saint Swithun is remembered today chiefly for an old weather proverb, yet the Church remembers him as a faithful bishop through whom the grace of Christ flowed to His people. This homily recovers the forgotten meaning behind the rain traditionally associated with his translation: not a sign of displeasure, but a symbol of Heaven's blessing, echoing the Advent cry, Rorate cæli desuper.
