Today's Practice Minute: When to take vacations

from Scaling Your Health Practice · host True North Consulting

Today’s practice minute is on vacations. You may be just coming back from a vacation but now is the best time to plan for your next one. I think everyone needs a vacation. I know when you just start out you are focused on growing the practice. But then you start to get busy and years go by before you take a vacation. I have found that taking 4-5 weeks off a year is best especially if you have a family. I like to break the weeks down into: 1 week at Spring break in March 1 week in July 1 week in August including the any holiday Mondays 2 weeks around Christmas time, the last two weeks of the year Get a locum to take over your practice, see your patients, and keep the clinic going. Good locums know what to do to continue patient care, add more new patients to the clinic, and your overhead continues to be covered while the clinic is open. Most staff want 2-3 weeks off a year and try to stagger the time off. Write down the weeks off on a 12 month calendar. And have your staff do that too. Sometimes having a part time person on staff is a good idea to fill in when someone is sick or you need to fill in for someone that is away on holidays. If you have any questions about taking time off or how to plan that for this upcoming year please DM me. In my new book success in private practice there is a chapter on vacations and I will put a link below that you can click on to order the Kindle version, paperback, or audible version on Amazon.
