Todd McClay: Rotorua MP on the skyrocketing police call-outs to Rotorua emergency motels

New data reveals there's been a significant spike in police call-outs to five Rotorua emergency housing motels. Stuff reported that emergency call-outs had increased by 917 percent between 2016 and 2021- a figure police admitted paints an 'unattractive picture.' It's also been revealed police declined to provide these figures 18 months ago, citing privacy reasons and commercial interests. Rotorua MP Todd McClay says he's shocked the police tried to hide this information, but many Rotorua residents won't be surprised.  "There was a period of time where you could see a lot of cars outside the motels that were being used for homelessness by the Government in Rotorua, and we did see an escalation of all sorts of crimes."
