Todd Pierce: Life After A Lung Transplant

from Motivate with Coach Camp · host Coach Camp

Life After A Lung Transplant: Seeing Life Through A New Purpose.  My guest this week is Mr. Todd Pierce, Retired Southaven Police Officer. “I’ve always tried to live life to the fullest that I can, but even more so now that I have been given life twice.”  ~ L. Barnett To have a heart to serve means that you are willing to put others before yourself.  This week’s guest had done just that for his entire adult life.  My guest Todd Pierce is a retired Southaven police officer which spent 26 years serving on the front lines.  Putting others first was something that came natural to him, as it does with most first responders.  It is this train of thought which also makes it very difficult to accept help from others when in a time of need. Todd describes how he grew up a healthy, athletic boy and into his adult years he was an avid runner.  Then out of nowhere he noticed he was having more difficulty than normal catching his breath.  As time went on this shortness of breath got worse and eventually it led him to pursuing a diagnosis and going through a litany of tests. He said he had suspicions that he may have the same lung disease his sister was diagnosed with a few years prior and unfortunately those suspicions came true.  He was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis with non-specific interstitial pneumonia**.**  This meant that eventually he would require a lung transplant to save his life.  We discuss what that process was like, the guilt that comes with receiving someone else’s organ and what life was like through recovery.  If you or someone you know may be in need of an organ transplant then this episode is one you don’t want to miss.
