The unemployment rate for the first quarter of the year 2025 has worsened to 32,9 percent, an increase of a 1.0 percent from the last quarter of last year. This was announced a short while ago by the Statistician-General Risenga Maluleke in Tshwane. Maluleke notes that a total of 291-thousand were lost since the fourth quarter of 2024. Discouraged work-seekers increased by 7 000 and the number of persons who were not economically active for reasons other than discouragement increased by 177 000 between the fourth quarter of 2024 and the first quarter of 2025.
