Analyst says no legal basis to challenge impeachment committee
Independent legal and political analyst Dr. Mkhuseli Vimba says despite COSATU’s objections, there appears to be little legal basis to successfully challenge Parliament’s impeachment committee composition. Parliament has confirmed a 31-member impeachment committee to investigate President Cyril Ramaphosa over the Phala Phala farm matter. This follows a constitutional court ruling that Parliament acted unlawfully in blocking the Section 89 report in 2022. The committee includes nine ANC members, five DA representatives, three MK Party members, two EFF members, and one representative from each of the other 12 parties. Meanwhile, the Congress of South African Trade Unions has rejected the committee's composition as unconstitutional. Testifying before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, Hawks Lieutenant-Colonel Nkoana Joseph Sebola has sharply criticized officers who moved sealed bags from a container into a bakkie during the 9 July 2021 Aeroton cocaine bust in Johannesburg. Sebola told commissioners the scene's integrity was compromised and insisted no officer could identify cocaine by smell alone. He said he only suspected the substance was cocaine after piercing a sealed package with a pin and discovering a shiny powder.

NCC MP Fadiel Adams did not consult the family of slain ANC Youth League secretary general Sindiso Magaqa, when he took statements and recorded a cellphone video from the now self-confessed killer at Westville prison. This is according to a statement from the investigating officer, Sandile Mavuka, that's being read out during Adams' bail application in the Pinetown Magistrates Court. Dr Evern Meyer : Emergency teams remain on high alert during severe storms in Western Cape

Economist and Honorary Professor at the Wits Business School, Professor Jannie Rossouw says South Africa’s rising unemployment rate reflects both seasonal and deep structural economic problems. Rossouw says weak economic growth continues to fuel job losses and limit opportunities. He says government policies over the past three decades have failed to create enough jobs or attract sufficient investment. 3 suspects linked to an extortion case are expected to appear in the Kwaggafontein Magistrate’s Court. Police are continuing to search for a fourth suspect.
Three suspects aged between 46 and 60 are expected to appear on Wednesday before the Kwaggafontein Magistrate’s Court on charges relating to extortion. Testifying before the Madlanga Commission, SAPS Zonkizizwe CIMAC Commander Warrant Officer Marumo Magane admitted officers made an oversight by allowing a truck suspected of carrying drugs to leave a premises without obtaining a search warrant. Commissioners questioned why police failed to secure the scene despite reasonable suspicion. Magane conceded the decision exposed officers to possible danger and created a risk that the suspected drugs could have been removed before reaching the destination.

Gauteng Hawks coordinator of narcotics cases, Colonel Francois Steyn has told the Madlanga Commission that officers Mashaba and Manganye allegedly opened a container at Scania where about 20 bags of suspected narcotics fell out and were loaded into an unmarked Nissan bakkie. He admitted he did not directly witness the incident and relied on accounts from officers on scene. Photographic evidence was later retrieved from colleagues after his phone was damaged.

It was being handled by the KwaZulu-Natal Political Killings Task Team. The State alleges that between November 2024 and January 2025, Adams unlawfully met and interviewed accused persons connected the murder case while they were in custody. Alexandra Regional Court sentences Mugabe and Matonhodze.
Bellarmine Mugabe, son of the late Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe, and co-accused Tobias Matonhodze have been sentenced at the Alexandra Regional Court in Johannesburg. Mugabe will be deported to Zimbabwe today after pleading guilty to firearm and immigration offences in South Africa. The court heard that his convictions relate to illegal possession and breaches of immigration law. Matonhodze has been handed a series of custodial sentences 12 months on count one, 12 months on count two, three years on count three, and a further 12 months on count four with all sentences ordered to run concurrently. Odwa Duda: Mangaung Metro audit outcomes unchanged for 3 consecutive years
The Office of the Auditor General is today briefing the Standing Committee on Public Accounts in Parliament on the latest audit outcomes of metropolitan municipalities. The Auditor-General's business unit leader for the Free State, Odwa Duda, has reported to members that the audit findings for the Mangaung Metro in the Free State reveal ongoing weaknesses in financial control. Duda, says the audit outcome in Mangaung Metro has remained unchanged for three consecutive years with growing areas of concern.

ATM warns policy fails without accurate population data.
March and March Movement together with several other political parties are marching to the Union Buildings in Pretoria today. The parties say the march is over unemployment, safety, dignity and access to opportunities. The movement is also concerned about what it describes as the deterioration of the country including crime and illegal migration. Basic Education minister seeks probe into textbook tender irregularities
Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube has written to Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana to ask that the National Treasury investigate possible irregularities in the procurement process for textbooks for Grade 1-3 pupils. Allegations surfaced that publishing company Lighthouse Publishers (Pty) Ltd, which stood to make more than R285 million producing textbooks and learning and teaching support materials for the Department of Basic Education, was registered three days after the contract specifications were issued.
