Tour Catch-Up: Madrid - Alcaraz & Sabalenka triumphant, 'Cakegate' fuels controversies

from Tennis Weekly

Joel and Chris are back to round off Tennis Weekly’s coverage of the Madrid Open. It’s been an eventful finals weekend with home favourite Carlos Alcaraz defending his title and Sabalenka upsetting Swiatek in three sets. Grand Slam winners Andy Murray and Sloane Stephens dropped down from the main tour to pick up titles and Emma Raducanu underwent two of her three scheduled surgeries on her road to becoming injury free. It’s also been a week of birthday celebrations on tour and a story of three varying sizes of cake opening up the conversation on gender equality whilst tournament Director Feliciano Lopez did his best to close down any speech from the women’s doubles finalists. Chris also tries to make par in ‘par for the courts’ with an Italian Open special before they both make their predictions ‘fingers crossed’ for the Men’s and Women’s draws in Rome.__________________Tweet us @TennisWeeklyPod or email the show here: [email protected] us on TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and make sure to check out our website as well to get your full Tennis Weekly fix.**Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods.
