BREAKING NEWS: Alcaraz to miss Wimbledon as well as Roland-Garros!
Carlos Alcaraz’s 2026 season has taken a dramatic turn with the two-time Wimbledon champion and reigning Australian Open winner having officially withdrawn from both Queen’s and Wimbledon as he continues to recover from a persistent right wrist injury. At just 23, Alcaraz has already built one of the most remarkable résumés in modern tennis, but this setback raises serious questions about how cautious he must be to protect what could still be a very long and successful career. In this episode, we break down the impact of Alcaraz’s absence on the Wimbledon draw at Tennis Weekly HQ, the growing dominance of world number one Jannik Sinner and whether we can truly call the ATP Tour ‘boring’ right now, and what this means for contenders like Novak Djokovic in his continuing quest for Grand Slam 25. We also discuss the challenges of a two-player rivalry dynamic compared to the era of the Big 3.SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show [email protected] Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. Sinner completes 'Golden Masters', Svitolina wins in Rome + Raducanu rehires US Open coach!
SINsational! At the Italian Open in Rome, Jannik Sinner made tennis history by completing the Career Golden Masters, becoming just the second man after Novak Djokovic to win all nine ATP Masters 1000 titles. Even more remarkably, the world No. 1 has now won six Masters 1000 titles in a row and swept Monte Carlo, Madrid and Rome in the same clay season. Tennis Weekly HQ asks is men’s tennis becoming a bit too predictable at the top? And heading into the French Open, is Sinner’s greatest challenge himself? On the women’s side, Elina Svitolina delivered one of the most impressive title runs of the season to capture her third Rome crown and 20th career WTA title. The Ukrainian defeated Iga Swiatek, Elena Rybakina and Coco Gauff in consecutive matches to put herself in the big mix as a genuine Roland Garros contender. Can Svitolina finally reach her first Grand Slam final, and what has she brought to her game that could propel her all the way?Elsewhere, we discuss Emma Raducanu’s reunion with Andrew Richardson, the coach who guided her to her 2021 US Open triumph, as they begin a full-time partnership ahead of Strasbourg and the British grass court season. We also unveil our French Open clay-court power rankings, talk about how not to enter court featuring Luciano Darderi and preview the final round of tournaments before Paris in Strasbourg, Geneva, Hamburg and Rabat.SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show [email protected] Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. BREAKING NEWS: Sir Andy Murray announced as Jack Draper's coach for Wimbledon!
Breaking news! We’re back at Tennis Weekly HQ to react to the exciting announcement that Andy Murray has joined Jack Draper’s coaching team for the upcoming grass-court season through Wimbledon. In his first coaching role since working with Novak Djokovic, Murray steps in after Draper’s surprise split with Jamie Delgado after just six months together. We discuss why this feels like a natural partnership between two of Britain’s biggest tennis stars, and whether Murray’s unrivalled experience on grass — including two Wimbledon titles and years at the very top of the sport — can help Draper get his career back on track after yet another injury setback. We also consider the risks. Murray’s coaching debut with Djokovic offered valuable lessons but ultimately produced mixed results, and with Delgado no longer in the picture, there will be significant pressure on Sir Andy to make an immediate impact. Finally, we debate whether close friendships can successfully transition into player-coach partnerships, and whether this could be the start of a long-term collaboration or simply a fascinating summer experiment. Sinner chases records in Rome, Gauff saves a MP + will there be a grand slam boycott?
Clay-court chaos reigns in Rome as Tennis Weekly returns with Joel and Chris to unpack a dramatic first week at the Italian Open, where a string of shock exits has raised even more questions (and provided few answers) ahead of Roland Garros. While Jannik Sinner continues to cruise in his bid to complete the Career Golden Masters and claim all nine ATP Masters 1000 titles, Novak Djokovic’s long-awaited return ended abruptly with a surprise opening-match defeat to rising Croatian Dino Prizmic. On the WTA side, world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka suffered her second loss in three matches after letting a dominant position slip against veteran Sorana Cirstea. Can we still consider Sabalenka a clear favourite for the French Open?Elsewhere, we examine the growing threat of a potential Grand Slam boycott over prize money and debate just how realistic such action would be, including whether tennis can truly be compared to leagues like the NBA and MLB. We also assess the struggles and what’s actually going wrong with the ATP Tour’s chasing pack behind Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, with several top seeds falling early in both Madrid and Rome. Plus, Holger Rune delays his comeback until the grass-court season (phew!), Venus and Serena Williams turn heads at the Met Gala, and Taylor Fritz embraces single life with a trip to a Renaissance Fair.SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show [email protected] Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. Sinner breaks Masters 1000 record, Kostyuk downs Andreeva + Djokovic returns in Rome!
Jannik Sinner and Marta Kostyuk have been crowned champions in Madrid and there’s plenty to unpack. Join Joel and Chris at Tennis Weekly HQ as they break down Sinner’s absurd run to a fifth straight Masters title with yet another mauling of Alexander Zverev (seriously… who is stopping him right now?), while Kostyuk quite literally flips her way into the spotlight with a maiden WTA 1000 crown and red-hot clay form off the back of her title in Rouen. With Aryna Sabalenka crashing out to a magical Hailey Baptiste performance - saving six match points on the way to a stunning upset — is this year’s French Open suddenly a lot more wide open than it seems?Elsewhere, there’s chat about Emma Raducanu finally reuniting with her US Open-winning coach Andrew Richardson. And we reflect on Kei Nishikori's announcement that he will be retiring at the end of the season - where does he rank in terms of greatest players never to win a Grand Slam? Plus, with Rome around the corner, we take a look at the Italian Open draws and ponder is this the moment that Jannik Sinner completes the Masters set and is a fit again Novak Djokovic the only one who could potentially stop the Sinner show rolling on?SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show [email protected] Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. Alcaraz to miss French Open, Sabalenka ousts Osaka + Gauff & Swiatek fall sick in Madrid
Halfway through the Madrid Open and the biggest story isn’t even in Spain — Carlos Alcaraz is out of Roland Garros with a wrist injury. Joel and Chris get stuck into what it means, from the biggest winners and losers to whether Jannik Sinner’s path to a Career Slam just got a little smoother. In Madrid, it’s been less clay-court season, more survival mode. A mystery “Madrid lurgy” has taken hold, with Iga Swiatek forced into just her second career retirement and Coco Gauff also struggling on court. Thankfully, Aryna Sabalenka and Naomi Osaka delivered a match of the year contender and sparked the question: is “Claysaka” officially back?Off court, there’s plenty of drama too. WTA CEO Portia Archer’s sudden exit raises eyebrows, while Italy continues its tennis takeover with the Next Gen Finals heading there. Is it the Sinner effect or is there something more to it? Plus, we react to Taylor Fritz and Morgan Riddle’s split, Camila Giorgi’s return announcement from the wilderness, and ask the big question on everyone’s lips - is it finally time for Venus Williams to hang up her racket?SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show [email protected] Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. Alcaraz injury puts French Open in doubt, Rybakina's wins 2nd Porsche + Shelton's clay victory
The clay season continues and it was titles for Rybakina, Fils and Shelton on the tour but the headlines were dominated by Carlos Alcaraz when he withdrew from Barcelona after his first match with a wrist injury. Since then Alcaraz has been spotted wearing a wrist cast at the Laureus World Sports Awards and his participation at Roland-Garros has been thrown into question given the nature of his injury. Elsewhere Jannik Sinner attempts to make history by winning 5 Masters titles on the trot and 4 in a row to open a season as the World No.1 looks to capitalise on the abscence of Alcaraz and Djokovic in Madrid. Returning to competition in Madrid is Aryna Sabalenka who has a battle for No.1 after Rybakina won her 2nd Stuttgart crown and drove away with another Porsche. Chris and Kim also discuss the controversial circumstances around former Wimbledon Champion Markéta Vondroušová's doping charges for refusing a test in December last year and try to make sense as to why a player with so much experience of being tested would not be aware of the rules or the consequences of refusing a test. They also celebrate Amelie Mauresmo announcing that Roland-Garros will not be having cameras behind the scenes after the fallout from the Australia Open and Coco Gauff's racket smashing incident and as always end with predictions as to what will go down when the tour reaches Madrid.SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show [email protected] Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. Sinner beats Alcaraz to reclaim No. 1 ranking, Andreeva wins 5th title + Medvedev meltdown
It finally happened... Sinner vs Alcaraz match one for 2026—and it did not disappoint (well… maybe a little, thanks to the Monte Carlo wind). Join Joel, Kim and Chris as they break down Jannik Sinner’s statement win to reclaim World No. 1 and ask why we aren’t seeing the best from Carlos Alcaraz at the moment and is Jannik Sinner the true World No. 1 despite having an inferior Grand Slam record to Carlitos.Elsewhere, we’ve got chaos, comebacks and a few raised eyebrows—Matteo Berrettini hands Daniil Medvedev (RIP Clayvedev) a brutal double bagel that no one saw coming, Mirra Andreeva bags another title in Linz, and Great Britain stun Australia in the Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers. Plus, Holger Rune’s comeback plans are picking up pace… but is it all happening a bit too soon? The gang are already a little worried. We also look ahead to a packed week on the clay with Barcelona, Munich and Stuttgart underway with Iga Swiatek debuting her new coaching era with Francisco Roig.Oh, and Andy Murray + roast potatoes…SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show [email protected] Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. Swiatek gets Nadal masterclass, Pegula defends Charleston + Paul wins 1st clay title
Clay season is officially underway and we’re back at Tennis Weekly HQ to roundup week one as we start to look forward with Roland Garros on the horizon. This week, we ask ourselves is Jessica Pegula the best player on the WTA Tour currently not named Elena Rybakina or Aryna Sabalenka after she defended her Charleston title and speculate on what tips did Iga Swiatek receive from her idol Rafael Nadal as they were spotted linking up on the court in Spain. Joel and Kim also debate the anatomy of a coaching break up with the news that Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard was only informed by his agent that Swiatek's new coach Francisco Roig had ditched him for the Polish former World No. 1.On the ATP side, there’s plenty to get stuck into as Tommy Paul grabs his first clay title, rising Spanish star Rafael Jodar making waves with his massive forehand in Marrakech, and we dive into the news that the WTA Tour Finals are set to leave Riyadh after 2026 with Gdansk and Charlotte in the United States on the shortlist. Plus, we announce the winner of our Babolat giveaway and of course take a look ahead to Monte Carlo where Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner lead the charge which once again leads us to debate - are we *finally* going to get our first Sincaraz matchup this season??SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show [email protected] Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. Sinner and Sabalenka win historic 'Sunshine Double' + CLAY season predictions!
Sunshine Doubles all round! Join Joel, Kim and Chris at Tennis Weekly HQ as they break down a historic sweep from Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka—becoming the first duo since Djokovic and Azarenka to complete the Indian Wells–Miami double in the same season. We dig into Sinner’s ruthless run—three straight Masters titles without dropping a set—and what it means for the World No.1 race and the looming clay swing, with Alcaraz defending big points. On the women’s side, we explore Sabalenka’s relentless consistency, does she actually have any challengers, and whether she can finally turn dominance into Grand Slam glory at Roland Garros. Plus we make our own 2026 clay-court predictions - dark horses, French Open picks, and who claims the men’s World No. 1 spot by grass season - Sinner or Alcaraz? Alcaraz upset in Miami, Swiatek splits with coach + Sinner and Sabalenka on for Double
The Miami Open has hit the midway stage—and it’s already delivered a wave of shock exits, with Carlos Alcaraz, Jack Draper and Iga Świątek all crashing out early. We break down Alcaraz’s surprise loss to Sebastian Korda and ask: should there be concern heading into the clay swing? Fresh off a strong Indian Wells run—including a win over Novak Djokovic—Draper’s momentum stalled as his struggles against big servers continued in defeat to Reilly Opelka. Meanwhile, Świątek’s early exit was quickly followed by a split from coach Wim Fissette, despite their Wimbledon Championships success last year. We dive into what went wrong and who could be next. Juan Carlos Ferrero, anyone? Plus, we react to Wimbledon’s introduction of video reviews, debate a potential WTA Next Gen Finals, and look ahead to week two in Miami. Sinner back to winning, Alcaraz streak ended + is Sunshine Double on for Sabalenka?
Indian Wells absolutely DELIVERED. In Tennis Paradise, both finals provided thrilling conclusions with Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka lifting their first-ever titles out in the desert after two blockbuster championship matches. Jannik Sinner continued his incredible hard-court dominance with another flawless, no sets dropped run after his triumph at the Paris Masters, defeating a resurgent Daniil Medvedev in a tense final decided by two tie-breaks. The victory makes Sinner the youngest player ever to complete the set of major hard-court titles — a huge milestone in his career. But while Sinner keeps raising the bar, Medvedev’s run back to the Top 10 has us asking: is he currently the best player outside of Sincaraz, and could he be a genuine Grand Slam contender again? And as the wait for a Sincaraz final this season continues, we also dive into the electric Djokovic vs Draper clash — a match we’re already calling a contender for match of the season — and debate whether that controversial hindrance call against Draper vs. Medvedev was really necessary. We’re still divided on it!On the WTA side, Aryna Sabalenka finally turned the tables on Elena Rybakina in a dramatic final, saving a championship point to snap her recent losing streak against the Kazakh and claim the Indian Wells crown. We discuss the Sabalenka-Rybakina rivalry and whether we think it will be the one to define women’s tour in 2026. Plus, Par for the Court returns and we look ahead to the Miami Open where Novak Djokovic and Emma Raducanu have dropped out with some bold predictions — Sunshine Double for Sinner and Sabalenka anyone?SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show [email protected] Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods.
