Trump Is Using the Endangered Species Act to Destroy Colorado’s Wolf Recovery Program

The Trump administration is trying to destroy Colorado’s wolf reintroduction program - a program Colorado’s voters approved at the ballot box in 2020, the first time in American history citizens voted to restore a species. Wolves were released in 2023 and pups were born in the wild for the first time in 80 years. The man put in charge of killing the program is Brian Nesvik, Trump’s new Fish and Wildlife Service director. Nesvik previously ran Wyoming’s wildlife program where 85% of the state was a predator zone - shoot wolves on sight, no tags, no limits. Under his watch, a man ran down a young female wolf with a snowmobile, taped her mouth shut, paraded her in a bar, and killed her. The fine was $250 for possession. His agency lied about it being the maximum penalty. The torturer pled guilty to a felony and got zero jail time. Now Nesvik is weaponizing the Endangered Species Act - the law designed to protect wolves - to destroy the program recovering them. He’s manufacturing a paper trail of rancher complaints through a rigged public comment period to justify seizing control.
