Trump Launched a Government Website That Harvests Pregnant Women’s Medical Data. They Called It Moms.gov.

The Trump administration launched Moms.gov on Mother’s Day, a government website that appears to be an official resource for pregnant women but immediately funnels them to anti-abortion crisis pregnancy centers while collecting their personal medical data. Names, home addresses, menstruation dates, marital status - all collected by Heartbeat International, one of the largest anti-abortion organizations in the country, whose terms of use allow them to share that information with corporate employees, CPC volunteers, and in at least one case, anyone with an internet connection, according to reporting by Abortion Every Day. Senate Democrats flagged Option Line’s data collection practices in 2022. The Trump administration built a government website around it anyway. Crisis pregnancy centers are not medical facilities, are not staffed by licensed providers, and have been documented lying to patients about gestational age, medical risks, and available options. Republicans tried to launch this same website in 2023 and called it life.gov. Then pregnancy.gov. Then Moms.gov, until it sounded warm enough that nobody would notice what it actually does. This follows the EPA adding birth control to a federal contamination watch list two weeks ago. They are building a surveillance system around women’s reproductive decisions piece by piece.
