Trump Suing Himself for $10 Billion While Cutting Hospice for the Dying

Donald Trump filed a 10 billion dollar lawsuit against the IRS in January. The problem: the IRS is an agency of the federal government, which Trump runs. The Justice Department defending the IRS is run by Todd Blanche, Trump’s former personal criminal defense attorney. Federal Judge Kathleen Williams noticed the parties in the case were not actually on opposite sides and ordered both to file briefs by May 20 explaining how this is a real lawsuit under Article III of the Constitution.The DOJ is now racing to settle before May 20 so the judge never gets to rule. According to the New York Times, the proposed settlement would drop all current and future IRS audits of Trump, his family, and his businesses. The Times previously calculated that one pending audit loss alone could cost Trump over 100 million dollars.This same week, the Department of Health and Human Services placed a six month moratorium on new Medicare enrollments from hospice and home health care providers, affecting access for over 5 million elderly and disabled Americans. The administration also froze 1.3 billion dollars in Medi-Cal funding to California.
