En Soweto, Sudáfrica, nos cuenta la Unicef en su portal, miles de escolares negros tomaron las calles en 1976, en una marcha de casi un kilómetro de largo. Protestaban por la inferior calidad de su educación y para reclamar su derecho a ser educados en su propia lengua. Cientos de chicos y chicas fueron tiroteados y en las dos semanas de protestas que siguieron al suceso, mas de cien personas murieron y más de mil resultaron heridas. Para honrar la memoria de los que murieron y el coraje de los que participaron en la marcha, el Día del niño Africano se celebra el 16 de junio de cada año desde 1991. Hoy recordando este día, nos viene a la memoria una palabra clave, un concepto fundamental en el entorno africano Ubuntu. La palabra proviene de las lenguas Zulú y Xhosa. Surge del dicho popular «Umuntu, nigumuntu, nagumuntu» que en Zulú significa « una persona es una persona a causa de los demás». A continuación escucharemos Jerusalema, canción escrita en idioma venda, presente en Sudáfrica y su letra habla de Jerusalén como la ciudad celestial en la que estar en comunión con Dios. Nacida en diciembre de 2019 como una canción gospel, afro-house, compuesta por el Dj Master KG interpretada por Nomcebo, se ha convertido en un himno de supervivencia durante la pandemia del Coronavirus, un momento de la vida en el que se pararon los relojes y la tierra parecía que había dejado de girar.
