Nyikes Fatimének egy örökölt betegség miatt, már 16 éves korában elkezdődtek a látásproblémái. Először a jobb, majd később, 26 éves korában a bal szemére is elvesztette a látását. Több évnyi küzdelem, megannyi kórházi beavatkozást követően vált látássérültté, ami miatt egész korábbi életét fel kellett adnia. Igaz, hogy a trauma súlya alatt összeomlott, idővel sikerült talpra állnia és új utakat találnia. Sőt, ma már nem tragédiaként, hanem sorsfordító pillanatként tekint látásának elvesztésére, aminek köszönhetően többet tudott kihozni az életéből. A segítő szakmában teljesedett ki: mesterfokú szociális munkás, szervezetfejlesztő szupervizor, gyógypedagógiai asszisztens lett. Sorstársakat segít át életük legnehezebb pillanatain, utat és pespektívákat mutat nekik; látók szemléletformálásán dolgozik annak érdekében, hogy minél inkább enyhítse a látássárüléssel járó veszteséget. 2005 óta a Buda-Környéki Látássérültek Közhasznú Egyesület alapítója és elnöke is, de ami talán fontosabb: 2000 óta édesanya is.
