Viajamos en el espacio y en el tiempo hasta los confines del Universo para observar un objeto que figura entre los más energéticos y violentos del Cosmos. El objeto, identificado como 4FGL J1219.0+3653 está situado a más de 12.000 millones de años-luz de nosotros. Se trata de un blázar, es decir, una galaxia activa con un agujero negro supermasivo rodeado de un enorme disco de materia que va cayendo hacia él. El agujero negro engulle la materia de su alrededor y emite un haz de partículas y radiación que apunta hacia la Tierra. Esa particular orientación ha permitido que el blázar sea detectado y estudiado con el Gran Telescopio de Canarias (GTC), un estudio que aporta datos que desafían los conocimientos sobre la evolución cósmica de los blázares y de las galaxias activas en general.
