Entre el 30 y el 40% de la población adulta sufre de hígado graso, porcentaje que sube a más del 75% entre los obesos. Un porcentaje de los afectados por hígado graso desarrollará carcinoma hepático, un tipo de cáncer que carece de gen mutado que lo explique y que, por ello, también carece de una estrategia terapéutica específica contra él. Ahora, un grupo de investigadores chinos ha descubierto un gen que aparece con un funcionamiento muy elevado en muchos tumores, un gen que produce un enzima muy importante para la síntesis del colesterol.
