Under the Same Moon

Every year during the Chinese Moon Festival, families gather beneath the full autumn moon. Lanterns glow, tables overflow with food, and mooncakes are shared – a symbol of unity, reunion, and love. Across villages, cities, even continents, people look up at the same moon and remember those they love most. That celebration captures something deep in the human heart – a longing for connection. Yet for all our technology and closeness, real love often feels fractured, conditional, fragile. And that's why these words from the apostle John still speak so powerfully: 1 John 4:7-8 Dear friends, we should love each other, because love comes from God. Everyone who loves has become God's child. And so everyone who loves knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. John wrote to a community divided by conflict and false teaching. His message was simple but revolutionary: genuine love doesn't begin with us – it begins with God. He's not merely loving; He is love itself. Just as the moon reflects the light of the sun, we're called to reflect God's light into a dark and divided world. The warmth we share, the grace we give, the forgiveness we extend – that's how people encounter the true God. So tonight, if you happen to glimpse the moon, remember: His light never fades.
