For the past twenty-three years, Mike has had the honor of serving as an educator in various settings and positions. His career in the field started at a Colorado homeless shelter as a special education teacher for at-risk youth. Mike and his wife relocated to West Texas, where he found his true passion for working with challenging behavior. He taught high school students with emotional disturbances, Oppositional Defiance Disorder (ODD), and ADHD. From there, Mike was given the opportunity to help develop an inclusion program for all students at a junior high school. His years at the junior high helped guide him to a position at Region 18 Education Service Center, where he served as a Special Populations Consultant, a Coordinator of Comprehensive School Support, and a Coordinator of Special Populations. Mike now runs and operates Mike D Consulting, providing training, coaching, and support with behavior, inclusion, instructional strategies, and leadership.
