UnforMETable, Episode 36: Darren Reed

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past. When the Mets acquired Darren Reed from the Yankees in the 1987 offseason, one could reasonably have hoped the organization had pulled another coup along the lines of acquiring David Cone for Ed Hearn. The young prospect made a quick impression in the team’s first spring training in Port St. Lucie—beginning a string of impressive springs that let Ralph Kiner to refer to him as Mr. March. Despite his memorable March exploits over several seasons, Reed never could crack the depth chart of the Mets impressive late 80s outfield before injuries began to chip away at his once promising future.
