UnforMETable, Episode 46: Collin Cowgill

from Home Run Applesauce: A New York Mets podcast · host Home Run Applesauce

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past. With the organization reeling financially from the Bernie Madoff fallout, Sandy Alderson tried to unearth hidden gems. Such was the hope when the team acquired Collin Cowgill— an undersized outfielder who had posted some solid minor league numbers—prior to the 2013 season. Cowgill had a great spring training, winning a spot as the team’s starting center fielder. This looked like promising development when Cowgill announced his presence with a memorable Opening Day performance—including a grand slam—in an 11-2 victory. Cowgill would lose his job by May, and be off the team before the end of June—but he’ll always have that UnforMETable Opening Day performance.
