UnforMETable, Episode 47: Jed Lowrie

from Home Run Applesauce: A New York Mets podcast · host Home Run Applesauce

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past. Let’s hop in the wayback machine all the way to the 2018 offseason, when new general manager Brodie Van Wagenen tried to put his mark on the team with some dramatic moves. After a major trade to acquire closer Edwin Diaz and second baseman Robinson Cano, the Mets tried to expand their offensive depth by signing veteran utility man Jed Lowrie. Lowrie’s two year contract was an endless string of mysterious leg injuries. The frustration of never seeing this acquisition take the field was only exacerbated by the organization’s opaque handling of the information regarding Lowrie’s condition. The frustration surrounding his Mets tenure seemed to provide an all-too appropriate coda to a strange 2020 baseball season and a frustrating Wilpon ownership tenure. As always, you can listen or subscribe to this and all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show.
