UnforMETable, Episode 56: Bob Apodaca

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past. An undrafted free agent out of college, Bob Apodaca moved quickly through the Mets minor league system as a promising looking reliever. After a very brief and unfortunate cameo during the Mets’ unlikely run to the 1973 National League pennant, Apodaca established himself as a solid reliever in 1974—so promising, the Mets were willing to part with Tug McGraw that offseason. After several solid years as a bullpen stalwart, elbow problems short-circuited Apodaca’s major league career. But his time in the organization was only beginning, as he would immediately become a pitching coach in the organization, ultimately working his way up to the job on the major league level under Bobby Valentine.
