Upanayanam: Awakening Divine Wisdom through third eye opening | உபநயனம்: மூன்றாவது கண் திறப்பின் மூலம் பேர் அறிவை அறிதல்

from Santhosam Podcast: Guiding Light of Spiritual Wisdom · host Santhosam

The forehead eye, also known as the eye of wisdom and the eye of knowledge, is the gateway to reaching the highest level of intelligence. The front part of the forehead is where understanding occurs, and it is the place where thinking and analysis take place. It is here that we reflect on everything and gain clarity, analysing all things with focus and deep understanding, regardless of who is speaking. In ancient Bharath (India), the process of opening this third eye— the eye of knowledge— was through the practice of Upanayanam. During this ritual, the initiate would be adorned with three sacred threads, each representing the wisdom of one of the three main scriptures, guiding the opening of the forehead eye (the inner eye of insight). In those times, those who opened the eye of knowledge reached a higher state of being. From this elevated state of wisdom, they understood justice and lived a life of virtue and integrity. These individuals were referred to as the deeply virtuous sages (அற ஆழி அந்தணன்). The term Arakadavul Andhanar denotes those who have attained the highest level of wisdom through righteousness. Therefore, anyone who has achieved such wisdom is considered an Andhanar. An Andhanar is a spiritual guide, a teacher, or in essence, a Guru. The Guru plays a crucial role in every aspect of life. They guide individuals in their work, train them in their professions, and provide the wisdom necessary to manage various forms of administration— whether in politics, business, or family matters. The Guru also leads one along the path of righteousness. Hence, the Guru serves as a guiding force for all 4 kinds of people, offering direction in governance, discipline, values, and purposeful living. To transcend the cycle of birth and attain liberation, one must seek the guidance of a true Guru. Surrendering at the feet of the spiritual master is essential, as it is nearly impossible to navigate the vast ocean of worldly existence without such guidance. When a seeker approaches the Guru with devotion and unwavering faith, the wisdom possessed by the Guru naturally becomes accessible, leading them toward spiritual realization. This is why people say, “Long live the Guru” and “Let the Guru be our refuge.” The Guru represents supreme knowledge. From that elevated state of wisdom, everything the Guru says guides the seeker toward that same higher understanding. Anyone who leads us to a greater understanding is undoubtedly an Achariyar and a Guru. A Guru is someone who imparts knowledge to us, especially about the things we are unaware of. Therefore, we should show respect and reverence to all Gurus in the world and, through them, honor and praise the supreme wisdom they embody as the true Guru.Send us Fan MailLet Wisdom Flourish!Let Peace Prevail!
