Using Art to Build Patriotism and National Identity

I think much of the recent turmoil in the US political system and the re-election of Trump is a result of the collapse of Hollywood and its myth building and storytelling capacity. Hollywood was a factory that inspired patriotism with national stories and symbols. It projected the appearance of US dominance to the world. It was cultural industry that plastered American flags throughout, even though many of the movies were actually filmed in Canada. Canada needs to use our own truly excellent national symbols and capacity to enhance our culture and unite us as a country. Canada must start investing in our art and culture to grow national pride.
