Utah Community Action

from Salt Lake Chamber · host Salt Lake Chamber

This is Derek Miller, Speaking on Business. When a Utah family faces a crisis, whether it's an unaffordable utility bill or a child who needs a strong start, Utah Community Action is often the first call. Joining us to share more about the impact of their work is CEO, Jennifer Godfrey. Jennifer Godfrey: Utah Community Action serves over 51,000 Utahns every year through high quality early childhood education, housing stability and workforce development programming. Our mission is to empower individuals, strengthen families and build communities through education and self-reliance programs. That’s what makes UCA unique is our wraparound approach. For example, take a child like Jasmin, who is brought to our Head Start program by Albert and Nina, her parents. While participating in parent engagement events, Albert learns about our workforce development training opportunities. When he completes the program, he was able to find employment that significantly increased his monthly income. Meanwhile, Nina learns about our home weatherization program, which is designed to make homes more energy efficient through high quality home improvements. UCA specializes in assisting individuals experiencing poverty, breakout of poverty. Derek Miller: With 45 locations across Utah, Utah Community Action continues to support communities where help is needed most, helping create brighter futures for generations to come.
