Uzodinma: Authenticity means being willing to be wrong and corrected
from 邱后算账Hindsights
Our guest for today's episode is Uzodinma Irozuru, a second generation Nigerian immigrant and well-achieved female lawyer in America. She got her JD (Doctor of Law) from Columbia University and is working at a prestigious law firm in Seattle. What drew us closely together was not her shining career, but her constant struggle between working in the corporate environment and being her authentic self. In this episode, she was brave enough to openly share her vulnerabilities of being a minority living in a predominately white culture and her healing journey as a intergenerational trauma survivor. This conversation is filled with compassion, joy, pain, fear and most importantly, hope. I hope Uzodinma's personal story could reveal the other side of American dream and shed light on your healing journey. Please enjoy. 【Shownotes】03:45 My major life choices were made based on fear of failing others' expectations.05:45 How it feels like to be working in a corporate office as a black female in America13:10 Internalized white supremacy means denying the critical parts of who you are 22:50 Diversity program in big corporates lacks authentic connection with minorities 27:20 Safety and skills are the important tools to help break the vicious cycle39:10 Systems and environments play the key role in segregating people 43:45 My solution of change is to rebuild the connection with my authentic inner being51:10 Fear is an embodied experience that can be activated to react in a place of trauma 59:25 If you cannot be graceful with your body, how can you do the same to others70:02 Last words from Uzodinma 【About Hindsights】Song:Unstoppable Lianne LaHavas NPR Music Tiny Desk ConcertMolly:Founder of CouragetoBecome | Relationship Coach | WriterHindsights:Explore different possibilities through conversation
