VAMOS HABLAR INGLÉS Podcast Episode 24: “My Richness Is Life, Forever.” In this special two-year anniversary episode of the VAMOS HABLAR INGLÉS Podcast, I reflect on life, art, voice, memory, and what it means to leave evidence that we were here. The episode begins with a tattoo on my right thigh: “My richness is life, forever,” a quote from Bob Marley written on my body in the handwriting of Jean-Michel Basquiat. From Marley’s philosophy of richness to Basquiat’s artistic language, to my own body and voice, I reflect on how the VAMOS HABLAR INGLÉS Podcast has become an archive of my life and ideas over the past two years. I also finally explain the origin of the podcast’s name through Dominican icon Fefita La Grande and her song “Vamos a Hablar Inglés.” Rather than functioning literally as an English lesson, Fefita transforms the phrase into Dominican vernacular comedy—a warning, a joke, and a piece of everyday cultural language. That transformation became part of what inspired me to make the phrase my own through this podcast. For the first time, I also publicly introduce my upcoming book, I’ll Be Dancing On My Own: A Book About the Critical Theory of Selfhood, Decolonizing Solidarity, and Achieving Total Liberation. During the episode, I read the first paragraph of my Chapter One draft and the opening two to three paragraphs of Chapter Two, offering listeners an early glimpse into the philosophical and autobiographical project I am currently building. Ultimately, Episode 24 is about preservation: what happens when our lives become recordings, paintings, sentences, books, philosophies, tattoos—and archives that can outlive the moments that created them. “When Bob Marley said his richness was life forever, I don't think ‘forever’ has to mean that the body never dies. Esa transformación fue parte de lo que me inspiró a apropiarme de la frase y darle un nuevo significado a través de este podcast.
