Evángelos Odysséas Papathanassíou, compositor griego conocido como Vangelis, falleció a los 79 años el pasado martes 17 de mayo. Conocido por sus célebres composiciones para películas como "Carros de fuego" y Blade Runner, Vangelis de gran afición por la música tradicional griega, fue atraído también por el rock y el jazz, fusión que resultó determinante en su desarrollo artístico. Inició su carrera como productor musical en Grecia y colaboró en algunas películas hasta que el golpe de los Coroneles en 1967 en su país lo empujó al exilio a la Europa occidental, instalándose primero en Londres y más tarde en París. Hoy escucharemos el tema central de la banda sonora de Carros de fuego, composición por la que ganó un Oscar, de manos de Vangelis.
