Victory by Faith & The Witnesses of Christ: Judges 7–8 and John 5 (Day 128)

What evidence is enough to make us believe? Today in the Book of Judges, we see one of the most unconventional military victories in history. Armed with nothing but trumpets, torches, and jars, Gideon’s 300 men throw the Midianite camp into a panic, proving that God does not need a large army to win a great war. In the Gospel of John, Jesus addresses those who refuse to believe in Him despite the evidence. He presents a "fourfold witness"—John the Baptist, His miracles, the Father Himself, and the Scriptures—challenging His listeners to see that all of history points to Him.Today’s Scripture:📖 Judges 7:8–8:35 – Gideon overhears a dream in the Midianite camp that confirms his victory. He executes a night surprise with 300 men that leads to a massive rout. However, the story ends on a complex note: while Gideon refuses to be made king, he creates a golden ephod that becomes a "snare" to Israel, showing how even great leaders can leave a mixed legacy.📖 John 5:31–47 – Jesus explains that He does not testify about Himself alone. He lists the witnesses that validate His ministry: the testimony of John the Baptist, the works (miracles) He performs, the voice of the Father, and the writings of Moses. He points out the irony of religious leaders who study the Law but miss the very Person the Law describes.📖 Proverbs 11:19–28 – Solomon continues his observations on the harvest of our character: "Whoever is steadfast in righteousness will live, but he who pursues evil will die."
