Vikings Daily Opener, July 26th, 2023

from Vikings 1st & SKOL: A Minnesota Vikings podcast · host FFSN

Good morning Vikings fans, and welcome to today's edition of Vikings Daily Opener, on this day, July 26th, 2023. We're now just 46 days away from the Vikings' week 1 season opener, and there's plenty of news to discuss. We cover Danielle Hunter's contract situation, Vikings management's first major challenge, USA Today's projections for the Vikings in 2023, and Kirk Cousins' dedication to longevity. Plus, a look at the history of the number 46. Yesterday, Danielle Hunter reported to training camp with his veteran teammates. While this is good news for the Vikings, Judd Zulgad reports that Hunter is still unhappy with his current contract. Hunter is entering the final year of his contract and is owed only $5.5 million, well below market value for a player of his caliber. The Vikings have been reluctant to offer guaranteed money into the future, and this is where the hangup lies. If the Vikings cannot come to an agreement with Hunter, they may be forced to trade him. Fans will have to wait and see what happens in the coming weeks. At yesterday's press conference, Kevin O'Connell and Kwesi Adofo-Mensah said that they have been in dialogue with Hunter and are trying to build a plan that allows him to feel good about coming to work as a Minnesota Viking every single day. The situation is still unfolding, and we'll be sure to keep you updated on any developments. In other news, Kirk Cousins is taking steps to ensure his longevity on the field. He has hired a full-time bodywork coach for the first time this offseason, and he's taking the investment in his health seriously. Cousins has never missed a game because of an injury in his eight years as a starting quarterback, but he was hit more times than any other passer in the league last season. He knows that his health is critical to the team's success, and he's taking steps to make sure he can continue playing at a high level for years to come. Finally, USA Today's projections for the Vikings in 2023 are not looking good. After an incredible 2022 season, the Vikings are projected to regress dramatically. While a regression is inevitable after a 13-4 season, it's important to remember that the Vikings have a talented team, not just offensively. With the addition of Brian Flores as the new defensive coordinator and plenty of firepower on offense, the Vikings have the potential to surprise everyone once again and have another incredible season. Don't miss out on all the latest news and insights as we gear up for the 2023 NFL season and news from the Vikings organization. What do we say? SKOL VIKINGS! Hosted by Dave Stefano @Luft_Krigare.
