Vikings Daily Opener, May 15th, 2023

from Vikings 1st & SKOL: A Minnesota Vikings podcast · host FFSN

Welcome to the Vikings Daily Opener for May 15th, 2023! In today's episode, we cover a range of topics, from the importance of special teams to updates on the Vikings' roster. NaJee Thompson, an undrafted free agent, embraced special teams as his path to the NFL. Thompson, who switched from wide receiver to special teams in 2020, became one of the nation's best special teams players and is hoping his play on special teams will help him make the Minnesota Vikings' 53-man roster. The Vikings want to "do right" by running back Dalvin Cook. According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Vikings are willing to hold on to Cook's cap hit of around $14 million until they figure out whether to trade, release, or keep him on the team. Za'Darius Smith was traded to the Cleveland Browns after asking to be released in March. According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, there were two other suitors for Smith, but he found the opportunity to play opposite of Myles Garrett "appealing." Marcus Davenport, who signed a one-year, $13 million deal with the Vikings, has yet to develop into the elite pass rusher the Saints were hoping he'd become. However, Davenport has undeniable upside, and if he's able to take that next step, then the Vikings have a premium pass rusher at a discount. The Vikings' rookie minicamp included a significant amount of work in position drills, along with some routes by the offense against air, two short 7-on-7 sessions and some special teams drills. That's all for today's Vikings Daily Opener. Stay tuned for more updates on the Minnesota Vikings! What do we say? SKOL VIKINGS! Hosted by Dave Stefano @Luft_Krigare. Join the conversation!
