Szvitacs Alexa asztaliteniszezőnek egészen fiatalon és rendkívüli hirtelenséggel kellett szembenéznie egy rejtélyes és kegyetlen betegséggel. Minden előjel nélkül lett rosszul, majd néhány nap után már az intenzív osztályon feküdt élet és halál között. Kiderült, hogy toxikus sokk szindrómája van, aminek következtében amputálni kell egyik karját és lábujjait. Ráadásul mindezt úgy tudta meg, hogy az orvosok egy vizit során egymás között beszélgettek arról, hogy mit és hol kell levágni. Alexa túl fizikai és lelki fájdalmon, túl az ésszerű teljesítőképesség határain, minden tragikus változás ellenére hihetetlen gyorsasággal alkalmazkodott megváltozott élethelyzetéhez, sőt egy olyan álmát is beteljesítette, amelyre egészséges sportolóként nem volt lehetősége: olimpikon lett.
